NOTE: This eclipse has already occured. Check out the gallery for pictures. Thank you ALL for the support.
Next 26 January 2009 there will a partial solar eclipse visible from many regions in Indian Ocean Islands, Western Australia and Southern Africa.
The South African Node of the International Year Of Astronomy is preparing a live webcast of the event, with images from many places.
The entire world will be able to enjoy the eclipse.
- If you live at any of the places where the eclipse will be visible, enjoy the event. Please observe responsible safety precautions and if you can send us photos! (see below)
- If you are locate outside the eclipse shadow, you can still enjoy the view it thanks to Moonshadow. Or take a look to our gallery of images of people enjoining the event as is occurs.
How to send us your images
We have prepared an automated system for you to post any image related to the eclipse. It is fast easy and free. Send us any image of the eclipse itself, or people enjoining this event. This is how to:
-Send an email with the pictures to eclipse@solarastronomy2009.org .
-The subject line of the email will be the Title of the picture(s). Please include the Location.
-The body of the email will be the description.
-Add this to the end of the email: “tag: solarastronomy2009″ or any other tag you want.
The email will fly directly in seconds to the Gallery post section of this page. If afterwards you want to edit or delete it, send us an email to: mail@solarastronomy2009.org
You can also send us where are your photos and we will include them on the Gallery, of course!
Note: All material sent will have a default copyright to allow sharing, with mention to the author. If you want a different one, contact us. Details on the license can be found here. It basically means that anyone can use it, but they should mention who made it, so you.

Hi everybody,
My name is Leo, I am on Tristan da Cunha and I will try to send some pictures from the eclipse tomorrow (89% here), which will happen from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Tristan da Cunha is a volcanic island and has the particularity of being the most remoted inhabited island in the world: 270 people are living here, and internet arrived here only 2 years ago!
The settlement is located in the northern part on the island, and as the mountain is hiding the sunrise in summer, I will have to climb up to the “Base”, which is the mountain surrounding the village. Then, I will start to send pictures on my way back, around 8:30 a.m. from the internet café of the island (which is the only access I can get on the island).
I wish everybody to enjoy the eclipse tomorrow!
Cheers
Léo

Hello all,
Sorry for the delay, it has been a little bit longer than expected to come back from the mountain.
I will start now to send the pictures; I used a “stenopé” (sorry this is the french name I don’t know if it’s the same in englis) in order to be able to see the eclipse. It is very basic but it was really great!
I hope you will enjoy.
Cheers
Léo

I’m impressed, I have to say. Really rarely do I encounter a
blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you will have hit the
nail on the head. Your
concept is excellent; the problem is something that
not
sufficient persons are speaking intelligently
about. I am very
joyful that I stumbled throughout
this in my search for one thing relating to this.
